Frequently Asked Questions
1. Where will we be staying during our visit to His High Places?
In the Boone location there are four guest suites. Each includes a private bedroom and either a private or semi-private bathroom. There is also a private counseling area. Each suite contains either a full kitchen or a kitchenette with a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee pot. In the Danville and Raleigh locations, clients enjoy a private guest room and bathroom and kitchen privileges. Each location is inviting, private and comfortable. We strive to provide a safe and beautiful environment conducive to the healing process.
2. What makes His High Places unique?
First and foremost, our counseling is 99% one-on-one instead of group. Our counseling approach is a combination of diagnostic listening, spiritual surgery for root causes, and prayerful application. Together with you, we attempt to discover the roots of the problem and design a recovery plan that is God-directed and believable. We attempt to go deeper than behavioral modification by placing root causes under deep prayer therapy, utilizing biblical inner healing (Eph. 3:16), individual counseling and acknowledgement of (with preparation for) spiritual warfare. One of the chief functions of victorious counseling is to see that you are accurately understood -- but it should not stop there. God has answers and solutions. Also, we encourage you to actually embrace your healing as a process. With the Holy Spirit's leading, plus the length and frequency of sessions, issues are addressed that may have never been explored.
3. What do we expect from you, the clients?
We ask for 3 things from you:
- Teachability
- Full disclosure
- At least 3 prayer warriors covering you during your stay at HHP
4. What about follow up?
Near the end of an HHP visit, action and follow-up plans are drawn up for back home. Sometimes that includes phone counseling appointments and suggested shorter follow-up visits to HHP.
5. What is the typical daily routine like?
Each day sessions begin between 10:30 and 11am and break for lunch around 12:30 or 1:00 pm. In the afternoon there are assignments of reading, videos and/or other work as well as free time. The afternoon sessions begin at about 4:30 pm and wrap up around 6:30 pm. We gather for supper together about 6:30 pm. After supper we work a bit more, then end with a major motion picture which has appropriate teaching value.
6. What types of issues do you address?
We bring scriptural direction to those of you who need the renewing and the healing touch of Jesus Christ. Some issues for which we see real progress are:
- Moral failure: affairs, financial misconduct, dishonesty, pornography
- Inordinate anger
- Depression, burnout, workaholism and grief processing
- Marital disharmony, strife
- Life management and relational issues (life out of control)
- Divorce recovery and self-worth issues
- Adult sexual dysfunction and sins
- Career disillusionment and clarification
- Past childhood abuse which interrupts life (emotional, physical or sexual)
- Anxiety
- Financial bondage/mismanagement
- Child discipline problems
- Rape recovery and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
7. Attitudes
We are both humbled and awed by what God is doing through the ministry of His High Places. There comes a time when we must "get off the treadmill" to seek God when life's pressures prevent us from functioning as God desires. Surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, God's healing process begins. We are convinced Satan's number one target is the home. Disruption, harm or disillusionment in the home causes damage not only to the current home, but future generations as well. It certainly isn't the "abundant life." When a marriage is restored or a life put back on track, the whole body of Christ benefits.
Our first calling is to those in full time ministry. Over 50% of you are referred by pastors, counselors and former clients. HHP in effect becomes a counseling arm to the larger Body of Christ. Folks have come from 43 states and from at least 16 denominations, as well as various parachurch and independent organizations.
8. Is there paperwork that needs to be filled out?
Yes, the Client Services Coordinator will send you a packet of forms to complete prior to your arrival. An extensive life history form will need to be completed and turned in a week before your visit.
9. Are cell phones and laptops allowed?
Part of the process at HHP is getting away from your life so that you can "Be still" before the Lord. Part of hearing the Lord is being quiet and setting aside distractions. For this reason, we recommend that clients come to HHP unplugged. Cell phones are allowed (however signal is not great at the Boone location). Clients are allowed to make and receive calls during their visit; we just encourage them to spend as little time as possible on the phone. Internet access is not available to clients. Guests can bring a laptop and go to one of the bookstores with Wi-Fi to check email.
10. What about transportation?
Clients visiting the Boone, NC location can either drive in or fly into the Charlotte Douglas Airport or Piedmont Triad Airport (in Greensboro). Both airports are about 2 hours from the ministry. We recommend that clients flying in rent a vehicle so they will have transportation throughout their stay. Driving directions are emailed to clients prior to their arrival. GPS units will not direct you to the Boone location – you will need written directions! If needed, a taxi service is available for a fair rate. Clients visiting Raleigh, NC can fly straight into the Raleigh Durham airport and transportation to and from the airport are provided at no charge. Clients visiting Danville, VA should fly into Piedmont Triad Airport (which is about an hour drive from Danville).
11. What will I need to bring?
Nearly everything that you need is provided. You'll need to bring comfortable clothes, toiletries, your Bible and a notebook. Linens and kitchen utensils are provided. Guests also need to bring the food they would like to prepare for the two daily meals not provided by the ministry. All guest quarters include a fridge, microwave and coffee pot.

A Recent Guest Says
"God not only can heal our emotional pain, but desires to. At HHP my DAD was very creative as He worked through a Spirit-led sister in Christ, who had been through her own healing journey at HHP, to heal the holes in my heart. I came to HHP fragile and broken. I'm leaving with my "knower" full of truth. God's love and presence permeates every nook & cranny at HHP."
